A local bookmaker has launched ambitious plans to take on the world’s biggest online betting companies.
McBride’s Bookmakers, which has five betting shops in Derry and Donegal, has been re-branded as Mintbet.com.
The shops have now taken on the Mintbet.com brand and the company will also put a huge focus in to its online offering to punters.
Owner, Thomas McBride, is confident that they can compete against huge online betting firms.
And he is hoping that local punters will support the company as it embarks on its ambitious plans.
“Betting has changed so much in recent years and the online market is where the future is,” he said.
“We are delighted with how our shops are doing and they will continue to offer our customers the same level of service and value.
“However, the reality is that we have to look at online if we want to have a long-term sustainable business.
“The big online betting firms have a large share of the market but our belief is that why can’t we try and get a share of that market.
“People often complain about the north west not getting much but we believe that we have to go out and make things happen ourselves.
“We are up against some big firms but why can’t we be as successful as them.
“We would love to see local people support us in this.
“We employ around 30 people and obviously we would plan to employ more people as the business grows. We also obviously pay rates etc in to the local economy.
“So anyone supporting us knows that the money is staying locally and helping the local economy, unlike if they were betting with one of the other firms.”
Mr McBride said his company were also great supporters of local sporting organisations.
Mintbet.com has just been announced as the first ever shorts sponsor for Derry City (picture above).
He added that they also support a wide range of grassroots sport.
“Among the other clubs that we sponsor are Institute, Steelstown GAA club and the Derry/Donegal Vipers American football club.
“We believe in supporting the community in which we based and we have always been great supporters of local sport.”
With the Cheltenham festival starting tomorrow, Mr McBride said they are looking forward to a busy week.
And he urged local punters to visit Mintbet.com to see some of the great offers they have.
“We do not have the multi-million marketing budgets of the big online betting companies so we are not able to shout loudly about our offers.
“However, I would encourage people to come to our site to see the great value we offer and I am sure they will not be disappointed.”
